Rain, Regrets and a What If Kiss

What would happen
if we could do it all again
rendezvous behind that barn
and kiss once more in the rain?

What would that kiss taste like?
would we become one with the rain
and dance in the heady scent
of fresh beginnings?

or would it simply rain down on us
like big, fat teardrops of regret
filling puddles that we always have to walk around?

could we get through it?
should we even try?

what would happen
if we didn’t walk around those puddles?
what if we scooped them up
scooped up all the teardrops of regret
and placed them in a bucket
and carried them across a bridge
where we’d stop and, with purpose and peace,
we’d empty that bucket together
washing those big fat teardrops of regret
into the river below where they belong.
then we’d toss the bucket after them
and carry no more regrets.

what would happen
if you kissed me once more
for old time’s sake?

I will think of you
the next time it rains…

Ghost Moon

"The days really don't last forever
but it's getting pretty damn close
and that's when I remember
the things I miss the most"
(excerpt from Steely Dan's Things I Miss the Most)

~ Ghost Moon ~

In silence, there is no respite
she haunts me all throughout the night
symbol of dreams, once kept, now through
ghost moon is all that’s left of you

keeper of secrets, she knew mine
I whisper still, seeking a sign
in response, she just fades to blue
ghost moon is all that’s left of you

who knew that this would come to be?
regret becomes reality
no string of hope to hold onto
ghost moon is all that’s left of you

in silence, there is no respite
ghost moon is all that’s left of you.

Under the Mournful Moon

~ Under the Mournful Moon ~

Presence marked, She remembered the nights
we first came together
and then fell apart
again and again
each occurrence immortalized by a star
under Her watchful gaze
since the beginning of time

our time

we stopped it
we lost it
we found it again
never the same
different
but solid
or so I thought
I got mad
and ran away
you grew frustrated
and closed the door

presence marked, She dimmed the stars
sensing our cycle
has run its course
the night air grew heavy
as the moon mourned

the best of you
wanted more for me
and the best of me
cursed you for that
because the worst of me
still loved the worst of you

and even though I always returned to you
I could not ask to come back again

une minute avec la lune

~ une minute avec la lune ~

Hello.  Me again
first, let me apologize
for getting it wrong

keeper of secrets
you knew all my desires
and yet, you were tied

I asked the wrong things
you could send my love to him
but not bring his back

I understand now
I can’t will specific love
I can’t wish for his

but I can, and do,
wish him love and happiness
his own, to explore

and for me, dear moon
your presence my one constant
your lesson, received

it’s a new chapter
of my secret diary

I seek only truth.

Shadows vs. Light

  ~ Shadows vs. Light ~

I breathe in your memory
and exhale your name
the sound whispers through the darkness
of a lost love

Glimpses of a resurrection
tease my mind
shadows of light
but one of us is blind

I stumble through the corridors
of a broken heart
stepping over remnants
of a history I cannot escape

Years in isolation
leave our souls confined
shadows of light
keep us aligned

I implored upon Fate
She only led me here
to face the same questions
no one seems to answer

Hope’s evaporation
the inevitable decline
shadows of light
dim as they resign

I breathe in your memory
and exhale your name
it echoes through the darkness
waiting to be answered.

The Edge of You

"If we want hell,
if we want heaven,
they are ours.

That's how love works.  It can't be forced, manipulated, or coerced.
It always leaves room for the other to decide" ~ Rob Bell

~ The Edge of You ~

Infinite and fleeting
time soars and pauses
at the edge of you

it pulls, it nudges
it slips away
at the edge of you

hearts on asphalt
hearts on sleeves
hearts in waiting
at the edge of you

Everlasting and patient
love comes back around
to the edge of you

it touches, it asks
it seeks an answer
at the edge of you

hearts on asphalt
hearts on sleeves
hearts in waiting
at the edge of you

Unforgettable and painful
the past comes back around
to the edge of you

it's buried, it's reborn
it's kept true love at bay
at the edge of you

hearts on asphalt
hearts on sleeves
hearts in waiting
at the edge of you

Courageous and resolute
truth can go either way
at the edge of you

it digs deep, it prods
it's led me full-circle
to the edge of you

hearts on asphalt
hearts on sleeves
gone and buried
or love renewed

hearts in waiting
on that first step
what future unfolds
at the edge of you?
